The music boomed, muffled from within the convention center. The shockwave rippled across the street to where I was standing. My heart fluttered as the bass shook the insides of my body.
“Okay. I can do this,” I said. I took a step forward. My next step took a one-eighty. I was back where I started
I leaned on a fence to catch my breath. I wasn’t tired but felt like I couldn’t breathe.
Finally, an idea came to me. I took my cellphone out and dialed a number. Three rings later, a voice came on.
“Hey,” the voice said. Her voice was sweet and calmed my heart.
