“Did you live in a neighborhood like this before?” Esther stared at the suburb laid out before her. Looking past the over-grown lawns, broken windows and a few burned out shells, she allowed herself to slip into the past. The building’s roof overlooked what must once have been a street filled with families and noise.
“No,” Jeremiah’s gruff answer broke her daydream fog and she turned to stare at her husband. In her previous life, she would never have been drawn to him; although it was unlikely he would have looked her way either.
