Prompt: Conversations with my spouse. Word count: 1200 words. Genre: Romance
Darkness comes quickly in Africa. Velvet twilight shot through with gold, red and violet of the sunset sky. We were the only people in the area. And Paul was not back from bird photography. I grabbed the two way radio, again.
“Come in, Paul, come in.”
No answer! I pressed the buzzer alert – and heard the squawk from our old landy. He had left his handset behind again. A lion roared in the distance – an answering roar seemed closer. I was very alone and scared.
It was the last night of our safari. It was dangerous to go with a single vehicle – but Paul had insisted. So far, we had been alright.
