I lifted my eyes, catching my parents glancing at me as I actually looked at the Duke. Hope flared in my heart. At five years old, I knew what this could mean for our family. I hated thought of remaining a slave. They had enslaved our family for generations; education brought hope. Maybe this was the way out. He saw the look of hope in my eyes, “Education will not change your circumstances. You were born a slave you will remain a slave. That’s all Storen, are good for, is to serve us, the Dominion. Education will only help you serve us better.”
