I feared that I had been too brutal, too exact in my translation. I hoped that I had managed to adjust here and there the language, the context and the syntax so that I had committed the ultimate sin of translation – to impregnate the story with myself, my own aspirations for how the listener would hear and relate to the story. I hoped that I had broken the tradition of millennia of storytellers by deliberately altering the details so that they landed softly, warmly and with love rather than any hint of accusation.
