Prompt: The List | Word count: 1200 | Genre: Realistic Fiction, Love, Grief
Frieda read through her list. Then she check it again, just making sure that she had not forgotten one of the millions of things swimming through her head. The first task was going to the grocery store for an onion. Not because she needed an onion, but because there were none in her kitchen and she didn’t want to be in a situation where she went to cook and discovered that she had no onions. Should that happen, she would have to run back to the store, and that would mess up the order of her list.
From his armchair, her husband observed Frieda checking her list. Over the years, that list had become her entire guide to living. She depend on it more than him. As he watched her, the grooves around his mouth became deeper as his lips sagged into a terrible frown. His head looked as if it were too heavy for his shoulders, the way it drooped over his chest. And his shoulders did not seem very strong, as they listed forward, broken by the weight that they perpetually carried.
